Please do not begin until I have given directions: it can be a little more confusing than you might think.

If you are one of the eight students who only need to meet their ENGLISH benchmark, you will be taking the ENGLISH COMPASS practice.

Everyone else in the class will be taking a READING COMPASS practice.

When you are finished, please raise you hand so I can log your score.  You will also need to make a post on your FUTURE STORY CONTROL CENTER (not you independent reading blog) reflecting on this first experience. Title it: PRACTICE COMPASS 1.  Below is a model response.

8/14 Practice Compass 1
Practice makes perfect-I remember hearing this from my mother when I was first riding a bicycle.   I never thought I would be able to ride a bike; I fell off every time I tried to balance on the pink banana seat.  It hurt! I remember looking down at my skinned knees and thinking that I would never be able to succeed.  That is how I started to feel now-when I took this first practice compass exam, and saw my first score-it hurt.  My score was only a 63, and I know that to pass the Reading Compass Exam, I will be expected to make at least 85.  I know this time I didn't take my time reading the passages-I probably could have read the passages, or re-read the passage to make sure I answered the questions correctly.  After all, when I went back and looked at the questions I missed, most of the ones would have been my second guess.  If I had taken my time, I would have likely performed much better on this first test.  I know that once I focus on these reading skills, I will do much better; after all, practice makes perfect.

  3. I don't know almost anything about the compass, i'd like to know how it's graded and tips on passing the reading portion of the compass. I got a 25 on the English portion of the ACT and I don't need any aid on that, and I don't even know what I have trouble with in reading, because I feel that I can comprehend a passage, so I need to pin point what i have trouble with, also.

  5. I don't really know very much about the compass test at all. I know that the test is untimed and you can take it to reach your benchmark that you did not reach on the ACT. When do we take the compass test? I know we have to take the test sometime in our senior year, but I'm not really sure when that is suppose to be. If I do reach benchmark on the compass does that mean I get the cord when I walk across the stage?
