“Goodness gracious, you can’t hurt kids with disabilities because you have able-bodied people abusing the system or cheating. Really, is that what we want to do?” I agree with this 100%. Disney should not take away a disabled persons fun just because other kids are cheating their way up to the line. Maybe they need to show a medical record or something?
I agree taking away the Guest Assistance Card could limit the fun of a disabled child. As some parents say waiting for an extended period of time, even if they don’t have to stand in a crowded queue, is not practical for their children. Some cannot mentally process why they can’t ride immediately. Others must be on rigid schedules for food, medicine or even bathroom breaks. Some can be in the parks for only two or three hours before their child becomes exhausted or has a meltdown. So you're right they should have to show medical records and documentation of their child's disability.
To be honest..... I think what Disney is doing is a step in the right direction. The system has been abused and now the people have lost said privilege. It's a collective mess up. It's unfortunate for the ones who actually use the system fairly and their anger should be towards the people who caused them to lose the privilege not towards the ones who took it away.
I disagree. Why would you want a disabled person to suffer? They need their fun too. "Like many people with intellectual disabilities, has a tendency to hyper-fixate on things and become frustrated when they are denied him, sometimes melting down in outbursts during which he bites his own hands."
I do believe that the new policy at Disney is fair because of the fact that a lot of people, sadly, are taking advantage of the disability cards. "People faking hard-to-verify handicaps such as heart murmurs, back spasms or claustrophobia" Even if they didn't change the policy they would always continually have people faking or bringing disabled relatives just so they could skip line. The guest-assistant cards are great for those whom are really disabled but it's more over the fact that some people abuse them more than use them as an advantage.
The new policy is not really fair to kid with disabilities because people are taking advantage of the system already in place. They should find out who really need the passes and who doesn't. Because kids with disabilities don't understand why they can't ride the ride when they want. Which causes the kid to get upset and violent, like Bradley Doyle's son who has melt downs and bites himself.
You also make good points on why they should still have the passes, but my question to you is to how exactly are they going to find out who really needs the passes? ¨Stories of wealthy families hiring disabled tour guides to pose as family members have drawn national attention and scorn.¨ Even if they really do have a disability and need the passes the people with them still can take advantage of the guest-assistant cards.
I feel that the policy change at disney world not allowing people to skip lines anymore is far. Many people get to skip the long lines just because they have a kid with a disability and that is making the others that stand in a line for 2 hours to get on the same ride furious. Lots of people were abusing the guest assistance card at disney world for Ex. at Radiator Springs Racer 5,000 people out of the 20,000 a day use the Guest Assistance Card that is 25% of the people that go on this ride use the card to skip line.
Its not really fair kids with disabilities don't fully under thing like people with out disabilities don't understand why they have to wait. "Some cannot mentally process why they can’t ride immediately." Other children might have certain schedules they have to keep or they don't have their medicines or food in them.
It is unfair for Disney to change this policy, mainly because children with disabilities deserve some "normality" when they can get it.Those people that abuse the system though have to be tracked or stopped one way or another. “There has to be some sort of middle ground,” said Don La Vette of Joliet, Ill., who has an 11-year-old son with autism and oral and motor dyspraxia. “Goodness gracious, you can’t hurt kids with disabilities because you have able-bodied people abusing the system or cheating. Really, is that what we want to do?”
If the parents want there kids to have a normal life then the kids should have to wait in line like the other normal kids. Its not fair for the kids that stand in line for countless hours all the sudden get there spot taken on a ride just because a disabled kid decides to ride that specific ride.
I think it would be right to make the access card with a photo ID and have digital places to scan the card to let those people move past. People might have to argue and say well i've been waiting for an hour and he/she just gets to jump line? But if you're that insensitive about kids with autism, or special disabilities you don't need to be in a park full of kids just because u want your kid to have the best experience of his/her life.
I agree with the idea of finding ways to keep the use of, disabilities to jump the line under control, and photo ID cards would be a legitimate solution. But when they show those cards to employees at ride entrances or insert them into certain automated kiosks, they will then be given a time to return dictated by the length of the current standby line. The new cards will also include the guest’s photo and will be good for seven days, down from 14.
To be honest, I think Disney can handle the problem a different way. It states in the article that "groups using a pass issued to an elderly relative to jump the lines for thrill rides that the relative can’t or won’t ride" Instead of making it where disabled kids can't cut line at all, I think Disney should limit the number of people that are allowed to jump ahead with the disabled child.
i think your comment is right but i think they shouldn't have a limit on how many could jump ahead because if they have a special day with a bunch of special needs kids coming they wouldn't be able to stay with their friends they may be split up so maybe they need to have certain times of the day where they permit them to jump ahead.
The new policy at Disney world really isn't fair for most people that have disabled kids. When you go to Disney world or Disney land you go to have a good time and make you or your kids happy. With them cutting back the fast passes for disabled kids that cuts down the time they have to make their kids happy and have fun. Having the family prove that the kid has been diagnosed with a mental disability really would help the fact that people try abusing the system.
I agree because in the article is states, "But the more common abuse is subtler: people faking hard-to-verify handicaps such as heart murmurs, back spasms or claustrophobia; or groups using a pass issued to an elderly relative to jump the lines for thrill rides that the relative can’t or won’t ride." This says that people have faked having a disability just to get ahead for a ride.
There is nothing in life that is fair. I think the Disney should keep the Guest Assistance Program, also for people to get over it. Those family with disability suffers more than people waiting in line. For example if one of the disabled people have lost patient and have meltdown; it will affect you too. It's for the best to avoid making a scene than making a fit. You're going to Disney for your family not you.
Avoiding a scene is always the best way and going to Disney is to make your family happy. Most people us the system to get in front and never have to wait as long as everyone else. Everyone that has a disability and gets the fast passes need some proof that they have been diagnosed.
i agree with what disney is doing, because people do abuse this disability cards and disney would have to pay close attention to who really needs these cards and who really doesn't.
I agree, It would be better if Disney would ask for medical record of serious injuries. Then have these information placed on a card with a photo of the disabled.
I think the new policy is not right or fair. Really, is that what we want to do?” And this is my resen whey.
i disagree with this argument, because "Disney is widely seen as among the most disability-friendly companies in the world, and its Guest Assistance Cards are a big reason why. " meaning Disney doesn't really hurt anyone and its mainly the people who cheat and abuse the system.
Children with disabilities such should continue to be able to begin at the front of the lines at Disney. They have went threw so much with their lives so other families should have nothing to complain about and understand. Some parents tell about how they don't know if their kids could handle the long waits in line and they are maybe even more likely to get sick from all of teh germs around.
I agreay with you. The pore kids just whant to be a kid and the perents want to make them happy. but if they can't handle it do to there disobelatys then how can they be a kid and have a ecspereans that I think that all kids showed have.
I do not think this is fair because the only reason this had to be started in the first place all because of one bad person. One devious bad person had to ruin disneys system so thus the new plan was born.On the other hand I think it is fair because it gives everyone the same chance instead one bad person just using their disabled person to get to the front of the line.
I think with you saying that it makes it fair for everyone maybe is a bit false because the parents may not be able to control some of their children for that long possibly not being able to ride any of the rides and ruining the whole trip.
The new system implemented by Disney in response to the system abuse is not really the best way to handle the situation. The old system could've work well if there wasn't so many loopholes. While the new system will work for many, the old system still may work for a few. The qualifications for the old system needs to be more narrowed and catered for people who would have complications with the new system.
Within the action Disney has taken to disable the "Guest Assistance Card," left many parents with disabled kid in shock. Some cannot mentally process why they can’t ride immediately. Others must be on rigid schedules for food, medicine or even bathroom breaks. Some can be in the parks for only two or three hours before their child becomes exhausted or has a meltdown. Disney's response to this is over time many people abuse the Guest Assistance Card, and it has got out of control. But how is shutting down the Guest Assistance Card Program the best way to resolve this issue? Personally I believe papers and legal documentation of the child's disorder should be sent in months before visiting Disney to be viewed and accepted by Disney for a Guest Assistance Card.
I think it would be right to make the access card with a photo ID and have digital places to scan the card to let those people move past. People might have to argue and say well i've been waiting for an hour and he/she just gets to jump line?
I feel that it is fair for people that abuse the card; such as people with like a broken arm or a person that brings an elderly person just so they can cut the lines but the elderly person doesn't want to ride any of the rides. On the other hand it is ridiculous why they wouldn't let the card stay active just for the people with true disabilities such as autism or down syndrome. That would make the most since to me.
I believe that the new system that Disney is adopting is not the best solution for the situation going on. I agree that it is wrong for the people to abuse the system that are not really disabled, but what about the people who really do have disabilities? Like it said in the article, "Others must be on rigid schedules for food, medicine or even bathroom breaks." This is not fair to the disabled. Disney should make the families fill out applications to verify that there child or children are actually disabled. They should then issue special cards upon the verification.
I agree with Scott, it is totally not right to get rid of the entire card just because people are abusing it. What about the people that truly need it like people with true disabilities. I agree that they should fill out an application upon arrival.
I believe they should at least apply for the card because the people at Disney need to make sure that person with the disability is in your party and is really going to use the pass and yes, all disabilities are different but some might be a little worse than others. Applying for the card would be a bit different then people just get a card and saying the person with the disability is with them. I wouldn't want to be at Disney and think this family that's cutting is cheating there way up there.
I agree with this. I believe that the families should have to apply for the card before they go, and they should have to send in medical records to verify that their child or children is indeed disabled. That way, they wouldn't just be giving cards to just anybody that says they have something wrong with them.
I think its right to do this. Although it wasn't everyone's fault that it was being exploited, they still have to pay for it like everyone else. I think that park is taking the correct mentality by punishing everyone for a rising problem. It would take too long to assess everyone's individual problem and let them come in the park, so instead this in a much more efficient way of fixing the problem.
I do agree with you, but I still think that they should make sure that the person with the family really does have the disability and also is about of that family and not just someone they paid to go with them or some stranger.
Disney needs to stricken its policy so people will quit abusing it. Instead of punishing those who are really disabled, it would only effect those people who were abusing the privilege.
I agree with you. If Disney just takes better precautions about how they go about to give out the passes then less people will be likely to have them. Disney found that close to a quarter of all the visitors,(5,000 out of 20,000 on average per day), were using a Guest Assistance Card. If Disney makes the customers who "need" these passes fill out a form, then they are more than likely to cut back on the people who get to use the passes.
The new system that Disney is putting into effect is not fair. I do not agree with the way they are doing the new system. Most kids with disabilities can only stay in the park for a few hours, so while they are there they should get the best experience that they can. I think prior to getting these passes, parents should have to mail in a legal document of their disability. Also, I do not think healthy kids with broken legs or injuries should be able to cut the line. Just because they have a hurt body party does not mean they have to be on a food/medicine time frame or can stand out in the sun for so many hours. I think Disney should also put a number limit of how many people get to "cut line" with the disabled child.
I think that the kids who have disabilities and other problems should be able to get to the front of the lines. Disney using this system is a great idea because it will enable these children to still be able to experience the event of a theme park without taking a chance on worsening their health. It is a positive effect for them to enable the children to still get to the front of the line ad not have people abusing the system. They should just put a photo id on it and go with that.
Even though the lines are long and often take hours to get through, taking away a disabled persons ability to jump the line and not ok. Just think, if you were a person with special needs and your needs are not being meet then you will become frustrated. Yes people abuse the system and find ways to get around it but that happens no matter the situation, someone is always going to be there to try and get the upper hand and get something better than what they have now and the people with special needs should not have to suffer from this.
I agree completely with this. They are always going to try to get around the system and it will never end. They do not need to take it out on the kids who are suffering. They say “We have long recognized that people may have different needs, and we will continue to work individually with our Guests with disabilities to provide assistance that is responsive to their unique circumstances,” but they are taking this away by taking the card away.
Personally I believe papers and legal documentation of the child's disorder should be sent in months before visiting Disney to be viewed and accepted by Disney for a Guest Assistance Card. Disney's response to this is over time many people abuse the Guest Assistance Card, and it has got out of control. But how is shutting down the Guest Assistance Card Program the best way to resolve this issue?
I agree this would solve the problem of people abusing the Guest Assistance Cards, and yes shutting down the whole program is no way to solve the issue. Sending in paper work proving the child's disorder is the best way to stop the abuse of the system.
I agree to this because legal documentation of a child's disorder can help the issue. Legal documentation can verify the issue and verify that people are not "faking," to be disabled to cut a line.
I think an access card with a photo ID would be sufficient. Especially if you can see someone with a disability they should be allowed in front of everybody. One person cutting in front of you would not push you back in far at all, just one person.
I believe that the new policy is good to keep people to not cheat the system, but its not good for the people who need it. If Disney would "interview" them and if they are faking it then they are banned from the park.
I believe this could work. The only thing that would concern me is how many people would they have to interview? There are thousands and thousands of people who go to Disney Land. They would have to interview them and then have to remember them so maybe it would be easier to have the access card.
I think that disabled people should be given a pass because it is said by Chuck Burgh, "The big thing to me was, with kids with special needs, it’s just extremely difficult to go and take a vacation. We don’t even like stopping in the public restrooms on the way, because our kids have immune deficiencies.” Immune deficiencies meaning that disabled people have a much better chance of getting a death sentence because of a sickness whereas we can get a simple cough or sore throat. Think about waiting in line to only die? These people are hear to have fun and having fun is not having a cautious attitude towards the excitement. Disney should always be, as quoted by Chuck on the second page, "With what Disney did, they were really the light at the end of the tunnel.”
I think that it is a good idea to have the cards that will allow them to hold there place inline without having to stand there. If there child is sick and any kind of sickness is near deadly to them then they should get a special treatment. It doesn't give anyone else the right to abuse the right to cut line. Before anyone can get the passes it should be proven that they have some kind of disability.
Why should the old system be taken away just because several people are taking advantage of it?, honestly, i think the system shouldnt be changed in anyway because there are certain disabled kids who are on rigid schedules for food, medicine, etc. Some may have to leave after two to three hours after being there because their child is either exhausted or having a meltdown. Why not send legal papers of the persons disability months in advance to see if disney will accept it?
I think that the idea for Disney to use an access card and photo id for kids with disabilities is a great idea. Thus i know not all diseases and disabilities are not all similar. Disney is a place where all kids dream to go and they are still trying to cooperate with families so that everyone can go and enjoy their visits. Since people like to lie and cheat just to cut line, this is the consequence. This is how it has to be when people dont play by the rules.
Lines are long and often take hours to get through, taking away a disabled person's ability to jump the line and not ok. Just think, if you were a person with special needs and your needs are not being meet then you will become frustrated. Since people like to lie and cheat just to cut line, this is the consequence. This is how it has to be when people don't follow the rules.
they should keep it like it is its not the kids fault that some people lie and cut line they should keep it like it is cause what if they gotta leave early or have an outburst
the way this world works is not fair. everyone even without disabilities has special needs but we dont treat them any different. this new policy to me is not fair.
I think that the new policy is fair because it holds that persons space so that they don't have to be near any kind of sickness that can be harmful to them. There shouldn't be just anybody running around with this pass, there should be some way of proving that your child or that person has a disability.
Any child that is born with a disability has already had a draw back from day one. So there is no need to limit them any further in life. They need help and have special needs. im sure its not gonna kill anyone to let them jump ahead. just to see them smile and laughing is reward enough.
I think that the new policy that Disney is thinking about using is a good idea. It allows people with disabilities such as immune system deficiencies to still ride the ride, and be safe from all the people that they would have had to wait in line with. I think it also is a good thing because if someone is going to try to say that they have disability and not really have a disability, they still have to wait their turn to get on the ride.
I do agree with this opinion. People may have different needs and them continuing to work individually with their guests with disabilities to provide assistance that is responsive to their unique circumstances. Some families don't agree with this but they should because it's only helping their kids with disabilities. Jacob's opinion is great because they're are still going to have to wait, they'll just be in a better environment for them.
I think the new change is great! People have been abusing the system for a while now so this new change will cut down the cheating and using the system and help the people who actually have real disabilities go and still be able to enjoy all of the rides and have family time. This may seem unfair to the people who have the real disabilities but it is the punishment that everyone has to get for abusing this whole system.
I agree, I think that everyone should wait their turn. I think that it is a big enough advantage to be able to hold your spot in line and not have to wait in that line. I don't think just because someone has a disability that they need to be rushed on the ride right away.
I do not think the new policy change is fair. I think kids with disabilities should be aloud to still cut line that is what I think is fair. Yeah some people might think its not fair that they are being cut but you also have to think how that kid has disability and how lucky you are that you don't if you them being able to cut.
You have a great argument.... but the last sentence does get a little confusing. Although I do disagree with your answer, you do explain your side fairly well. You make it feel personal saying that we should feel lucky that we do not have the disability that they do even though we may not like being cut in line. That is totally true, no one like to be cut after waiting hours upon hours to ride a ride, but those people have disabilities and maybe an hour waiting could be the hour that changes their whole life and can ruin it. So all in all, it was a great claim!
I think that the new policy is fair and also unfair. It is fair yes to some families but as the article said some families with these major autism or immune deficiencies may have problems. Its fair to the families that may have a disability like not being able to walk, broken foot and etc. They are getting earlier access but can wait. It is unfair for the autism and immune deficiency families because the child isn't getting what he/she is used to. They may have a meltdown or other problems.
I think its a good idea but it can also be bad. People shouldn't be cheating and abusing the access cards but some kids and people really do have problems and its unfair to keep them from enjoying amusement parks and rides just because other people are cheating the access cards. I think if you want to use them you have to have a thing from the doctor explaining the person problem and actually have proof that it is unsafe and bad for them to be there. people with disabilities shouldn't be cheated just because others are using the access cards for the wrong.BUt its a good idea to hold peoples space for them .
I agree with your response. It can be good but also bad because the truly disabled shouldn't be cheated. They should be treated a bit different. Although it is bad because there are people that are temporarily disabled and want to ride and have fun. They deserve to not be cheated as well. The good thing is it actually helps cut back the early access for undisabled people. Great response, I totally agree.
The new policy change for the kids is a good idea, although anyone can get those fast passes, and can schedule ahead their rides and trips. It is all stored on a bracelet. I think that these kids should get the same bracelets with their fast passes and everything already included, these kids already have enough to go through, and they want to have fun vacations and enjoy their time with their loved ones. They should be able to have full access to these fast lanes, and rides. It is not fair to the kids with disabilities, because some people abuse the system. People need to think about the kids who have disabilities and have a reason to go on these fast lanes, not themselves by abusing the systems. The kids with disabilities could bring a doctors note saying what type, and everything about their disability so the kid wouldnt have to wait in the lines and take chances of getting more sick, and they could give people with proof these passes, not just anyone.
I agree with you. These kids should not have to go through more than they already do just because other people are abusing the access bracelets. It says that some people are using heart murmurs claustrophobia etc to use these access I think you made a good point people with disabilitie should get a doctor thing saying that they really need the help of the fast pass access cards.
Honestly, I think Disney made the best possible change they could make for the system with society changing as well. I understand some kids or even adults with certain disabilities may not be able to understand why they have to wait. I have people in my own family with disabilities like these the best thing you can do in the line is keep their minds occupied keep them entertained on something else. Because with the way our society is changing the cheating is only going to get worse, the only way I could see Disney could bring the system back is if at all times someone had some form of paper from their doctor as evidence they have this particular disability.
I agree that they made the good choice of changing the system. The doctors note idea is a good idea, and I agree on it because that way people cannot cheat against the system. Disney is trying to help the kids with the disabilities and it is hard to help them when people are abusing their system. They need to interview the people possibly at the main entrance and get their information. If they lie about the disability they should get a charge or something against them. Cheating is not the way to go, and some people will just keep abusing it. Its not fair to the sick people who want to enjoy their vacation
I think that it is a good idea an a bad idea. I feel like people will still try to abuse the system because people already do it now. I think that you should prove to Disney that you really do have a disability because its not far to the people who do really have one and who aint abusing it.
I agree with you. This is a good and a bad idea to take the system completely out of Disney although yes, it isn't fair to anyone who actually has a disability. I believe maybe they should have them have some sort of paperwork from their doctor, because i'm sure no real doctor is going to give someone with who has no disability a note or any form of paperwork. Other than that I couldn't really see how Disney would be able to bring that system back because society is also changing so much people are becoming so disrespectful of anything and everything.
I agree with this. This would be a great way to keep up with everything and not letting someone who is perfectly fine skip line because they don't want to wait. Chuck says in the article that his kids have a problem with their immune system and that they are scared to wait or go to public restrooms then I don't really believe he should have his kids out in public to much.
I also agree because it will give the disabled an opportunity to do things and have fun at Disney while it helps stop people from trying to cheat into getting on rides faster.
Is the new policy change fair? No, this new policy change is not fair for the kids with disabilities. With a kid that has disabilities, they miss out on a lot of different things in everyday life and they have to go through many struggles day in and day out. With them able to get out and go have fun is a great thing. With all of the struggles they go through, having them go through the line first is the least they can do for them. “This is going to be a huge obstacle for my son,” is stated that kids with disabilities can struggle sitting in a line for a period of time. They should allow them to go through first
Very good point. I do agree with you to this a hard subject on what side to pick so kind of in between on this. But I don't think it is right that others who may be perfectly fine get in like that and not have to wait just like everyone else.
This new policy change isn't fair.People have different needs there's a lot of people who have disabilities and that cant afford to wait in line.Such as Chuck Baugh's kids. They both have immune defecines and cannot afford to wait in line around a lot of other people, because if one person has even the common cold and sneezes near his kids they will end up hospitalizaed.
I agree with you completely. The new policy change can have a major affect on kids with disabilities. What is a nose run or sore throat to us, is a hospital visit for them.
I don't think the new policy is a good idea. I think that this new policy with the Disabled guests to get a fast pass for when there party wants to ride the rides. But for many such as "Brad Doyle, whose son, like many people with intellectual disabilities, has a tendency to hyper-fixate on things and become frustrated when they are denied him, sometimes melting down in outbursts during which he bites his own hands." These fasts past could possibly get rid of all the faux disabled but, it could also hurt the guests who are genuinely disabled. Guests who are only able to go to the park for a few hours at a time due to various situations might not be able to do all the things they'd like to since they can't control when they receive fast pasts
I agree with you completey. Some people have different needs and inorder for them to have fun ,which is why they went to Disneyland in the first place , then Disneyland should caterie to their needs.
"Is this new policy change fair", No why would someone with half a brain disrespect a group of disabled people like that by cheating the system there are a lot of people that fake to get around paying the full price "Stories of wealthy families hiring disabled tour guides to pose as family members have drawn national attention and scorn.
I agree that the policy change is a bad idea, Since this new change could take away from the guests who this program was originally designed for. Also,"Others must be on rigid schedules for food, medicine or even bathroom breaks. Some can be in the parks for only two or three hours before their child becomes exhausted or has a meltdown."
Yes, I agree with the new policy change because it lets the disables be able to do things at Disney and makes it harder for people to try and cheat to do things. In the article, it said that parents should have to apply for a pass before going there, I think its a good idea.
I agree with your statement. The new policy change would benefit completely for the disabled and it would make it fair for everyone to get on certain rides. Some people may still not follow but those people shouldn't be allowed back to the park, in my honest opinion.
I'm in the middle with your response because yea they need to punish everyone that is faking their way around things but then again how could you tell if someone is handicapped you can't just come out and ask them if their disabled.
I agree that disney made the right choice because the people that really do have these diseases shouldn't have to pay for it like everybody else. The people that fake these diseases should not only be punished but possibly banned from that certain theme park.
I believe that Disney should resolve this issue in another way. The reason why is because ¨some cannot mentally process why they can’t ride immediately. Others must be on rigid schedules for food, medicine or even bathroom breaks. Some can be in the parks for only two or three hours before their child becomes exhausted or has a meltdown.¨ This is why I think Disney should resolve this issue by getting hospital records.
ReplyDeleteI agree taking away the Guest Assistance Card could limit the fun of a disabled child.
DeleteTo be honest..... I think what Disney is doing is a step in the right direction. The system has been abused and now the people have lost said privilege. It's a collective mess up. It's unfortunate for the ones who actually use the system fairly and their anger should be towards the people who caused them to lose the privilege not towards the ones who took it away.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. Why would you want a disabled person to suffer? They need their fun too. "Like many people with intellectual disabilities, has a tendency to hyper-fixate on things and become frustrated when they are denied him, sometimes melting down in outbursts during which he bites his own hands."
DeleteI do believe that the new policy at Disney is fair because of the fact that a lot of people, sadly, are taking advantage of the disability cards.
ReplyDeleteThe new policy is not really fair to kid with disabilities because people are taking advantage of the system already in place. They should find out who really need the passes and who doesn't. Because kids with disabilities don't understand why they can't ride the ride when they want. Which causes the kid to get upset and violent, like Bradley Doyle's son who has melt downs and bites himself.
ReplyDeleteYou also make good points on why they should still have the passes, but my question to you is to how exactly are they going to find out who really needs the passes? ¨Stories of wealthy families hiring disabled tour guides to pose as family members have drawn national attention and scorn.¨ Even if they really do have a disability and need the passes the people with them still can take advantage of the guest-assistant cards.
DeleteI feel that the policy change at disney world not allowing people to skip lines anymore is far.
ReplyDeleteIts not really fair kids with disabilities don't fully under thing like people with out disabilities don't understand why they have to wait. "Some cannot mentally process why they can’t ride immediately." Other children might have certain schedules they have to keep or they don't have their medicines or food in them.
DeleteIt is unfair for Disney to change this policy, mainly because children with disabilities deserve some "normality" when they can get it.Those people that abuse the system though have to be tracked or stopped one way or another.
ReplyDeleteIf the parents want there kids to have a normal life then the kids should have to wait in line like the other normal kids. Its not fair for the kids that stand in line for countless hours all the sudden get there spot taken on a ride just because a disabled kid decides to ride that specific ride.
DeleteI think it would be right to make the access card with a photo ID and have digital places to scan the card to let those people move past. People might have to argue and say well i've been waiting for an hour and he/she just gets to jump line? But if you're that insensitive about kids with autism, or special disabilities you don't need to be in a park full of kids just because u want your kid to have the best experience of his/her life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the idea of finding ways to keep the use of, disabilities to jump the line under control, and photo ID cards would be a legitimate solution. But when they show those cards to employees at ride entrances or insert them into certain automated kiosks, they will then be given a time to return dictated by the length of the current standby line. The new cards will also include the guest’s photo and will be good for seven days, down from 14.
DeleteTo be honest, I think Disney can handle the problem a different way. It states in the article that "groups using a pass issued to an elderly relative to jump the lines for thrill rides that the relative can’t or won’t ride" Instead of making it where disabled kids can't cut line at all, I think Disney should limit the number of people that are allowed to jump ahead with the disabled child.
ReplyDeletei think your comment is right but i think they shouldn't have a limit on how many could jump ahead because if they have a special day with a bunch of special needs kids coming they wouldn't be able to stay with their friends they may be split up so maybe they need to have certain times of the day where they permit them to jump ahead.
DeleteThe new policy at Disney world really isn't fair for most people that have disabled kids.
ReplyDeleteI agree because in the article is states, "But the more common abuse is subtler: people faking hard-to-verify handicaps such as heart murmurs, back spasms or claustrophobia; or groups using a pass issued to an elderly relative to jump the lines for thrill rides that the relative can’t or won’t ride." This says that people have faked having a disability just to get ahead for a ride.
DeleteThere is nothing in life that is fair.
ReplyDeleteAvoiding a scene is always the best way and going to Disney is to make your family happy. Most people us the system to get in front and never have to wait as long as everyone else. Everyone that has a disability and gets the fast passes need some proof that they have been diagnosed.
Deletei agree with what disney is doing, because people do abuse this disability cards and disney would have to pay close attention to who really needs these cards and who really doesn't.
ReplyDeleteI agree, It would be better if Disney would ask for medical record of serious injuries. Then have these information placed on a card with a photo of the disabled.
DeleteI think the new policy is not right or fair.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is my resen whey.
i disagree with this argument, because "Disney is widely seen as among the most disability-friendly companies in the world, and its Guest Assistance Cards are a big reason why. " meaning Disney doesn't really hurt anyone and its mainly the people who cheat and abuse the system.
DeleteChildren with disabilities such should continue to be able to begin at the front of the lines at Disney. They have went threw so much with their lives so other families should have nothing to complain about and understand.
ReplyDeleteSome parents tell about how they don't know if their kids could handle the long waits in line and they are maybe even more likely to get sick from all of teh germs around.
I agreay with you. The pore kids just whant to be a kid and the perents want to make them happy. but if they can't handle it do to there disobelatys then how can they be a kid and have a ecspereans that I think that all kids showed have.
DeleteI do not think this is fair because the only reason this had to be started in the first place all because of one bad person. One devious bad person had to ruin disneys system so thus the new plan was born.On the other hand I think it is fair because it gives everyone the same chance instead one bad person just using their disabled person to get to the front of the line.
ReplyDeleteI think with you saying that it makes it fair for everyone maybe is a bit false because the parents may not be able to control some of their children for that long possibly not being able to ride any of the rides and ruining the whole trip.
DeleteThe new system implemented by Disney in response to the system abuse is not really the best way to handle the situation. The old system could've work well if there wasn't so many loopholes. While the new system will work for many, the old system still may work for a few. The qualifications for the old system needs to be more narrowed and catered for people who would have complications with the new system.
ReplyDeletegood reasoning on the situation we are for sure on the same page
DeleteWithin the action Disney has taken to disable the "Guest Assistance Card," left many parents with disabled kid in shock.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the new system may not work for everyone. Not all disabilities are the same so each require different care.
DeleteI think it would be right to make the access card with a photo ID and have digital places to scan the card to let those people move past. People might have to argue and say well i've been waiting for an hour and he/she just gets to jump line?
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with you. If they have a disability then they should be able to use the Assistance Card.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteI feel that it is fair for people that abuse the card; such as people with like a broken arm or a person that brings an elderly person just so they can cut the lines but the elderly person doesn't want to ride any of the rides. On the other hand it is ridiculous why they wouldn't let the card stay active just for the people with true disabilities such as autism or down syndrome. That would make the most since to me.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the new system that Disney is adopting is not the best solution for the situation going on.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Scott, it is totally not right to get rid of the entire card just because people are abusing it. What about the people that truly need it like people with true disabilities. I agree that they should fill out an application upon arrival.
DeleteI believe they should at least apply for the card because the people at Disney need to make sure that person with the disability is in your party and is really going to use the pass and yes, all disabilities are different but some might be a little worse than others. Applying for the card would be a bit different then people just get a card and saying the person with the disability is with them. I wouldn't want to be at Disney and think this family that's cutting is cheating there way up there.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this. I believe that the families should have to apply for the card before they go, and they should have to send in medical records to verify that their child or children is indeed disabled. That way, they wouldn't just be giving cards to just anybody that says they have something wrong with them.
DeleteI think its right to do this.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you, but I still think that they should make sure that the person with the family really does have the disability and also is about of that family and not just someone they paid to go with them or some stranger.
DeleteDisney needs to stricken its policy so people will quit abusing it. Instead of punishing those who are really disabled, it would only effect those people who were abusing the privilege.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you.
DeleteThe new system that Disney is putting into effect is not fair.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the kids with disabilities shouldn't have to deal with the consequences of things they didn't do.
DeleteI think that the kids who have disabilities and other problems should be able to get to the front of the lines. Disney using this system is a great idea because it will enable these children to still be able to experience the event of a theme park without taking a chance on worsening their health. It is a positive effect for them to enable the children to still get to the front of the line ad not have people abusing the system. They should just put a photo id on it and go with that.
ReplyDeleteEven though the lines are long and often take hours to get through, taking away a disabled persons ability to jump the line and not ok.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely with this.
DeletePersonally I believe papers and legal documentation of the child's disorder should be sent in months before visiting Disney to be viewed and accepted by Disney for a Guest Assistance Card. Disney's response to this is over time many people abuse the Guest Assistance Card, and it has got out of control. But how is shutting down the Guest Assistance Card Program the best way to resolve this issue?
ReplyDeleteI agree this would solve the problem of people abusing the Guest Assistance Cards, and yes shutting down the whole program is no way to solve the issue. Sending in paper work proving the child's disorder is the best way to stop the abuse of the system.
DeleteI agree to this because legal documentation of a child's disorder can help the issue. Legal documentation can verify the issue and verify that people are not "faking," to be disabled to cut a line.
DeleteI think an access card with a photo ID would be sufficient. Especially if you can see someone with a disability they should be allowed in front of everybody. One person cutting in front of you would not push you back in far at all, just one person.
ReplyDeleteI agree, maybe two people so they have someone to watch them.
DeleteI believe that the new policy is good to keep people to not cheat the system, but its not good for the people who need it. If Disney would "interview" them and if they are faking it then they are banned from the park.
ReplyDeleteI believe this could work. The only thing that would concern me is how many people would they have to interview? There are thousands and thousands of people who go to Disney Land. They would have to interview them and then have to remember them so maybe it would be easier to have the access card.
DeleteI think that disabled people should be given a pass because it is said by Chuck Burgh, "The big thing to me was, with kids with special needs, it’s just extremely difficult to go and take a vacation.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is a good idea to have the cards that will allow them to hold there place inline without having to stand there. If there child is sick and any kind of sickness is near deadly to them then they should get a special treatment. It doesn't give anyone else the right to abuse the right to cut line. Before anyone can get the passes it should be proven that they have some kind of disability.
ReplyDeleteWhy should the old system be taken away just because several people are taking advantage of it?, honestly, i think the system shouldnt be changed in anyway because there are certain disabled kids who are on rigid schedules for food, medicine, etc. Some may have to leave after two to three hours after being there because their child is either exhausted or having a meltdown. Why not send legal papers of the persons disability months in advance to see if disney will accept it?
ReplyDeleteI think that the idea for Disney to use an access card and photo id for kids with disabilities is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteLines are long and often take hours to get through, taking away a disabled person's ability to jump the line and not ok. Just think, if you were a person with special needs and your needs are not being meet then you will become frustrated. Since people like to lie and cheat just to cut line, this is the consequence. This is how it has to be when people don't follow the rules.
ReplyDeletethey should keep it like it is its not the kids fault that some people lie and cut line they should keep it like it is cause what if they gotta leave early or have an outburst
ReplyDeleteI agree, and them were also some pretty good evidence statements from the article!!
Deletethe way this world works is not fair. everyone even without disabilities has special needs but we dont treat them any different. this new policy to me is not fair.
ReplyDeleteYOU GOT THAT RIGHT BUDDIE
Deleteyou couldnt have saifd it any better
DeleteI think that the new policy is fair because it holds that persons space so that they don't have to be near any kind of sickness that can be harmful to them. There shouldn't be just anybody running around with this pass, there should be some way of proving that your child or that person has a disability.
ReplyDeleteAny child that is born with a disability has already had a draw back from day one. So there is no need to limit them any further in life. They need help and have special needs. im sure its not gonna kill anyone to let them jump ahead. just to see them smile and laughing is reward enough.
DeleteI think that the new policy that Disney is thinking about using is a good idea. It allows people with disabilities such as immune system deficiencies to still ride the ride, and be safe from all the people that they would have had to wait in line with. I think it also is a good thing because if someone is going to try to say that they have disability and not really have a disability, they still have to wait their turn to get on the ride.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with this opinion.
DeleteI think the new change is great!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think that everyone should wait their turn. I think that it is a big enough advantage to be able to hold your spot in line and not have to wait in that line. I don't think just because someone has a disability that they need to be rushed on the ride right away.
DeleteI do not think the new policy change is fair. I think kids with disabilities should be aloud to still cut line that is what I think is fair. Yeah some people might think its not fair that they are being cut but you also have to think how that kid has disability and how lucky you are that you don't if you them being able to cut.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great argument.... but the last sentence does get a little confusing.
DeleteI think that the new policy is fair and also unfair.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with everything you said. LIke the new police being fair for some people but also not fair for other people also.
DeleteI think its a good idea but it can also be bad.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your response.
DeleteThe new policy change for the kids is a good idea, although anyone can get those fast passes, and can schedule ahead their rides and trips.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. These kids should not have to go through more than they already do just because other people are abusing the access bracelets. It says that some people are using heart murmurs claustrophobia etc to use these access I think you made a good point people with disabilitie should get a doctor thing saying that they really need the help of the fast pass access cards.
DeleteHonestly, I think Disney made the best possible change they could make for the system with society changing as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree that they made the good choice of changing the system.
DeleteI think that it is a good idea an a bad idea. I feel like people will still try to abuse the system because people already do it now. I think that you should prove to Disney that you really do have a disability because its not far to the people who do really have one and who aint abusing it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you.
DeleteI agree with this. This would be a great way to keep up with everything and not letting someone who is perfectly fine skip line because they don't want to wait. Chuck says in the article that his kids have a problem with their immune system and that they are scared to wait or go to public restrooms then I don't really believe he should have his kids out in public to much.
ReplyDeleteI also agree because it will give the disabled an opportunity to do things and have fun at Disney while it helps stop people from trying to cheat into getting on rides faster.
DeleteIs the new policy change fair? No, this new policy change is not fair for the kids with disabilities. With a kid that has disabilities, they miss out on a lot of different things in everyday life and they have to go through many struggles day in and day out. With them able to get out and go have fun is a great thing. With all of the struggles they go through, having them go through the line first is the least they can do for them. “This is going to be a huge obstacle for my son,” is stated that kids with disabilities can struggle sitting in a line for a period of time. They should allow them to go through first
ReplyDeleteVery good point. I do agree with you to this a hard subject on what side to pick so kind of in between on this. But I don't think it is right that others who may be perfectly fine get in like that and not have to wait just like everyone else.
DeleteThis new policy change isn't fair.People have different needs there's a lot of people who have disabilities and that cant afford to wait in line.Such as Chuck Baugh's kids. They both have immune defecines and cannot afford to wait in line around a lot of other people, because if one person has even the common cold and sneezes near his kids they will end up hospitalizaed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely. The new policy change can have a major affect on kids with disabilities. What is a nose run or sore throat to us, is a hospital visit for them.
DeleteI don't think the new policy is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completey. Some people have different needs and inorder for them to have fun ,which is why they went to Disneyland in the first place , then Disneyland should caterie to their needs.
Delete"Is this new policy change fair", No why would someone with half a brain disrespect a group of disabled people like that by cheating the system there are a lot of people that fake to get around paying the full price "Stories of wealthy families hiring disabled tour guides to pose as family members have drawn national attention and scorn.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the policy change is a bad idea, Since this new change could take away from the guests who this program was originally designed for. Also,"Others must be on rigid schedules for food, medicine or even bathroom breaks. Some can be in the parks for only two or three hours before their child becomes exhausted or has a meltdown."
DeleteYes, I agree with the new policy change because it lets the disables be able to do things at Disney and makes it harder for people to try and cheat to do things. In the article, it said that parents should have to apply for a pass before going there, I think its a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement. The new policy change would benefit completely for the disabled and it would make it fair for everyone to get on certain rides. Some people may still not follow but those people shouldn't be allowed back to the park, in my honest opinion.
DeleteI'm in the middle with your response because yea they need to punish everyone that is faking their way around things but then again how could you tell if someone is handicapped you can't just come out and ask them if their disabled.
DeleteI agree that disney made the right choice because the people that really do have these diseases shouldn't have to pay for it like everybody else. The people that fake these diseases should not only be punished but possibly banned from that certain theme park.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Disney should resolve this issue in another way.
ReplyDeleteThats exactly what I think should be done.
